We picked our first big crop yesterday and had home grown cucumber on our sandwiches for lunch and the beans and peas for our dinner

There is lots of activity down in the vege garden bugs, grubs, worms, spiders, horse flies, slugs, sand flies, possums and birds.

  1. I wonder if that ladybird is a good one or a bad one. I'll have to look them up. Your veggies look good.

  2. I think your ladybird is the Fungus-eating Ladybird Beetle - Illeis galbula, one of the good guys. They eat the fungus on leaves, like the powdery mildew on pumpkins, so that's great. The one not to be encouraged is the 28 Spotted Ladybird, a vegetarian like you, but they'll compete for your veggies and become a nuisance.
You can see why the Golden Orb Weaver gets its name - that web is pure gold.

  3. Gorgeous Golden Orb spider!I don't see as many up here in Mackay as when I lived near Brisbane.

(I'm one of your Mother's friends.)
